Spend the extra for Behind the Wheel Spanish or Learn in Your Car Spanish Dec 16, 2008 I bought this course along with the Learn in Your Car course about 1.5 years after buying Behind the Wheel Spanish I and II. I have a couple hundred hours of Behind the Wheel Spanish behind me and am used to the way it is done. Drive Time Spanish was disappointing because of how disorganized it seems to me. I rip the CDs and record them in my car's GPS mp3 player and it runs forever while I drive. I immediately deleted the first CD copy because it was irritating with the constant car horn beeping and the excessively perky English narrator. I just now after only listening to the rest of it for another hour or so, deleted the rest of the set.
Skip this one and spend the money for Behind the Wheel I and II first, and then buy Learn in Your Car Spanish in that order. I have also preordered Behind the Wheel III which is due out next month (1/2009).
I like the fact that both of these courses (Behind the Wheel and Learn in Your Car) spend most of the time doing Spanish drills with two Spanish repetitions and less time with fluff like explaining Hispanic life and traditions. If I were only going to listen through these courses once, I guess it wouldn't be too bad. But since I repeat these things over, and over, and over, I only need to be told that Latinos stay up late at night in the summer, etc., one time, not every time the course repeats.
Generally I find Drive Time Spanish confusing with lots of Spanish paragraphs spoken with no clear interpretation until much later and since they only say the translation once after the English prompt, if you don't hear clearly the first time, you either rewind or just miss it. Both Behind the Wheel and Learn in Your Car repeat twice. I very frequently listen more closely to the second repetition to hear a nuance I misunderstood during the first translation. Since I am always driving, rewinding every minute or two for this purpose is not safe or reasonable.
So, this course is no longer in my car. But 16 hours worth of Behind the Wheel I and II and 9 hours of Learn in Your Car are in my GPS's mp3 player. In a couple weeks, Behind the Wheel III will be in there too.
P.S. The Learn in Your Car course includes a CD with all the course in mp3 files already which is nice to avoid the time to rip them all myself.
Hope this helps someone.
Thanks,
Steve.

The Difference Between Drive Time and Behind the Wheel Oct 11, 2008 The difference between Drive Time and Behind the Wheel Spanish 8 CDs Behind the Wheel - Spanish 1 (Behind the Wheel) is the difference between 'dia'and 'noche'.
Behind the Wheel is the 'day' and Drive Time is the 'night'.
Why you ask? Good 'pregunta'.
Because with Drive Time you are always in the dark as to what you are learning.
Behind the Wheel Spanish always has the English translation right there.
No guessing. Clear as day.
It's really the only way to learn. Behind the Wheel I mean.
Not bad for Intermediates trying to remember and brush up on their Spanish from an absence. May 25, 2008 I found this is a good starter to restart your spanish practicing. It's not for beginners. They touch the very basics very quickly and well if you don't know how to play with the inflections and all the good differences between the languages, I could see someone getting lost easily. It's not a bad product. Only thing is the pauses to repeat or to think about what you have to say is too short and usually you're saying it as they repeat the answer you just said. Other than that, I am very happy with the purchase and I like how it's easy to use in the car. Beginners in the language beware!
slow and easy good beginners lessons Feb 18, 2008 perhaps not advanced enough for someone who has some spanish but for the raw beginner this is a good one - drive listen and learn!
Useful if Used with Behind the Wheel Spanish/Not Alone Aug 14, 2007 I have purchased virtually every Spanish course I could find on Amazon.
Some are great, like Behind the Wheel Spanish 8 CDs and text.
Others are medicore, like Drive Time Spanish.
Drive Time would be better if they cut out the horns blowing and all the other cute tricks that distract rather than teach.
Aside from this and other drawbacks, I do feel that the course is worth purchasing if used with another superior course such as Behind the Wheel Spanish.Behind the Wheel Spanish/Complete Illustrated Text/Answer Keys/8 One Hour
