Good refresher! Apr 25, 2008 This language CD is a good refresher for those that know a little of the language. It is certainly not realistic to absorb this information on the flight. You will need to listen to it for at least a couple weeks before your trip. I would have liked to see them repeat the phrases a couple of times, but it's nice to hear the phrases in the native language.
Have the right expectations Jun 25, 2007 We loved the CD. However, we never took it seriously that we would learn Italian in 60 minutes. We bought the CD well ahead of our trip and listened to it whenever we were in the car with the kids. It was fun! We probably listened to it 10-20 times. The tracks are there for you to go back over sections (Which you will need to do!)
We liked the short format and the subjects they taught were correct for someone just visiting Italy for a week.
If you are somewhat fluent in Spanish, you will pick up Italian quickly. French is close too.
While in Italy, we used the cheat sheet as a guide. Using this method, we found that in a couple days we began to feel very comfortable in restaurants and shops in Italy. For us, the biggest hurtle was overcoming our fear of saying the wrong thing. Fortunately, the Italians are very gracious and accommodating so it was fun to try!
We lost our original CD and I'm buying another one.
Can't expect to learn In-Flight Jun 12, 2007 This CD only state the phrase once and expect you pick it up.
I gave up after several hours of trying but it just did not work.
I bought the car version which is better because it gradually builds on the difficulties, repeats and reviews
each lesson. The car version of multiple CDs was more helpful.

Crash Landing Jun 27, 2001 The blurb on the back of the package claims that if you work on this programme during your flight, you will learn enough of the language to get by. Unless your flight will be equal in length to a flight to Mars, you will certainly not be able to absorb enough of this 60-minute course to even nearly get by. This is a CD "update" to Fast & Easy Italian (also by Living Language). In-Flight Italian boasts over 400 essential words & phrases (a 100 word increase from Fast & Easy). Less is sometimes better. Each phrase on In-Flight is only spoken once (rather than twice as on the Fast & Easy series), not enough if you want to gauge your progress. The native speakers are for the most part speaking clearly, but WAY too fast. It comes with a "boarding pass"(booklet with the entire script). If you are already familiar with the language, the In-Flight series might actually get you up to speed in between the in-flight movie & the meal (soda pop & peanuts). If you are trying to learn Italian, try Pimsleur's Italian I thru III (expensive but effective). Pimsleur Italian has 30 lessons in each unit, and will get you SPEAKING (the course is audio only) straight away. Pimsleur is by far the best course available. If you are short on time and need a "survival" course, get Language/30 Italian (by Educational Services Corp). Language/30 comes with 2 tapes and a booklet. If Fast & Easy Italian is still available, it is better than In-Flight Italian. The truly serious language learner will be wise to go through all 3 Pimsleur courses and finish up with Living Language Ultimate Italian Level I & II.
