Yucatan Peninsula Map by Rough Guides (Rough Guide Country/Region Map)

The remotest of Mexico's tropical states - Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo - comprise the vast slab of the Yucatan Peninsula. They are most closely associated with the Mayan civilization, and this large-scale map locates all the dozens of visitable Mayan sites in the region. The map also pinpoints the Yucatan's eco-tourism interest, with national parks clearly demarcated, as well as its popular beach resorts around Cancun, and Playa del Carmen and on the islands of Cozumel and Iiha Mujeres. The map is made from rip-proof, waterproof plastic paper.

4Good map  Jan 03, 2008
Please ignore the review from the idiot who doesn't know how to read a map. This map has a fine scale, with mileage marked in kilometers (maybe they don't know the difference between kilometers and miles? Or just can't read a map?)

We actually ran into one place where the map was out of date, and a new road was not marked--I would recommend getting the more recent version of this map. It is excellent, though, and definitely a must for a drive across the Yucatan. It's tough and waterproof and virtually indestructible. I did wish there was a detail map of major towns, at least Merida and Cancun.

3Excellent regional map but lacks city & town detail  Dec 26, 2007
We rented a car and drove around Yucatan and had a great time. The roads and signs were better than I had expected, but like anywhere they are very far from perfect. This map was excellent for driving on highways and getting between towns. It had almost every tiny place on it. It is printed on a laminated paper that is almost indistructible which was good given the amount of times we re-folded it.
The only gripe, and it is a big one, there are no city or town level maps. Merida is the main city in the region and it has not a single detail map of it. Like any city, you can get terribly lost and not find a sign post anywhere. Luckily we had the lonely planet guide that had good city and town maps. The map is only printed on one side and so there is plenty of room for a couple of maps of major towns on the reverse they decided not to use that space for some reason.
We could not have done our trip without this map and saved our bacon a few times but it was useless in Merida and any other town you visit - such as any Mayan ruins. Make sure you bring another guidebook with that level of detail.

4Looks Good To Me!  Dec 15, 2007
I hesitated to buy this map after reading one of the reviews, but I am glad I did. It is perfectly fine, detailed but not too large, on durable waterproof paper, accurate and pretty easy to use. (There is now a 2007 updated version, but the 2003 version I have is still very accurate.) The map IS to scale, with mileage marked in kilometers on the routes. My only reservation is that the system used to note kilometrage is a bit confusing, with km between minor points in small numbers and km between major points in larger numbers. It takes a bit of doing to decipher in some places.

1Horrible Map  Jun 12, 2007
I don't know much about creating maps, but I know that it should reflect real cities and towns, and it should reflect the actual distance between the those towns (using a scale, for example, 1:10). This map does not do any of that. The only thing that is correct on this map is the roads. The raods are actually there, thank God. I would give this map 0 stars if I could.
I just wonder if the people who created this map tryed using it. I do not recommend using it.

5Excellent map and current  May 11, 2006
I bought this map before taking a driving trip in the Yucatan in April 2006. It is an excellent road map and has current road information which is important because older maps are missing roads. Signage in the Yucatan can be very poor. I highly advise buying a road map if you're driving around the Yucatan at all! It saved us a few times from long backtracks after we missed turnoffs due to poor signage.
